Carbon Electrode Market Size in China

In 2020, the Chinese carbon electrode market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a measured expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, consumption decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. In value terms, carbon electrode exports expanded slightly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tonnes), Canada (X tonnes) and Russia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of carbon electrode exports from China, together comprising X% of total exports. Norway, Turkey, Bahrain, Germany, Azerbaijan and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Bahrain (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Russia ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for carbon electrode exported from China worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. In 2020, the average carbon electrode export price amounted to $X per tonne, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Bahrain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China

In 2020, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of carbon electrodes, when their volume increased by X% to X tonnes. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbon electrode imports amounted to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tonnes), the U.S. (X tonnes) and Japan (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of carbon electrode imports to China, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), Japan ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest carbon electrode suppliers to China, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Poland recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average carbon electrode import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2019 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the price for Indonesia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
