Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tons in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bentonite exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In 2019, India (X tons), distantly followed by the U.S. (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the largest exporters of bentonite, together mixing up X% of total exports. Slovakia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Greece (X tons) occupied a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Greece, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), Turkey ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2019, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Turkey recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2019, the bentonite export price in China amounted to $X per ton, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2019 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, bentonite imports contracted slightly to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of bentonite, namely Germany, Canada, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, the UK, Japan and France, represented more than half of total import. Italy (X tons) occupied a little share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Thailand, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bentonite importing markets into China were Germany ($X), Canada ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Japan, Thailand, France, the UK, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Russia, Malaysia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X terms of the main importing countries, Thailand recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2019, the bentonite import price in China amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the import price increased by X% year-to-year. China import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
