For the sixth consecutive year, the Chinese albumins and albuminates market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 0.1% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. Albumins and albuminates consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports from China
In 2021, shipments abroad of albumins, albuminates and other derivatives (excluding egg albumin) decreased by -65.9% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 20,043%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, albumins and albuminates exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 519%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Canada (X tons) was the main destination for albumins and albuminates exports from China, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, albumins and albuminates exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Australia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada totaled +142.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+198.9% per year) and South Korea (+104.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for albumins and albuminates exports from China, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 28% share of total exports. It was followed by Australia, with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +17.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+140.7% per year) and Australia (+190.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average albumins and albuminates export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 976%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Albumins And Albuminates Imports
Imports into China
After nine years of growth, purchases abroad of albumins, albuminates and other derivatives (excluding egg albumin) decreased by -9.1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, albumins and albuminates imports reached $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 58%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The United States (X tons), Germany (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) were the main suppliers of albumins and albuminates imports to China, with a combined 82% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, Australia, the Netherlands and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Argentina (with a CAGR of +25.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest albumins and albuminates suppliers to China, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Denmark, Australia, the Netherlands and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Among the main suppliers, Argentina, with a CAGR of +41.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average albumins and albuminates import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
