Rice Market Size in Chile

In 2018, market value of rice was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Exports from Chile

For the second consecutive year, from Chile recorded growth in exports of rice, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2018. In general, the total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, rice exports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Venezuela (X tonnes) was the main destination for rice exports from Chile, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, rice exports to Venezuela exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brazil (X tonnes), fivefold. Turkey (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume to Venezuela stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+X% per year) and Turkey (-X% per year).

In value terms, Venezuela ($X) remains the key foreign market for rice exports from Chile, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Turkey ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Venezuela amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-X% per year) and Brazil (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average rice export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price indicated resilient growth from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, rice export price increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, the average export prices for rice attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for rice remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Rice Imports

Imports into Chile

These countries were followed by Brazil, Pakistan, Viet Nam and Thailand, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, the average import prices for rice attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average import prices for rice remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per tonne), while the price for Paraguay ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
