Toy Market Size in Chile

The Chilean toy market soared to $X in 2021, jumping by 38% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. Toy exports from Chile dropped to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -5.5% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, toy exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a drastic downturn. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Bolivia (X tons), Paraguay (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main destinations of toy exports from Chile, with a combined 93% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Venezuela and Brazil, which together accounted for a further 4.5%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Venezuela (with a CAGR of +16.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Bolivia ($X) remains the key foreign market for toy exports from Chile, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Paraguay ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 23% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bolivia stood at -4.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (-1.7% per year) and Peru (-14.6% per year).

The average toy export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 27% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of dolls and toys increased by 81% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 103%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, toy imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +30.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main toy supplier to Chile, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States (X tons), with a 2.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+4.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-31.2% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
