From 2015 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of wine and grape must decreased by -10.5% to X litres, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 6,239%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wine exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 1,211%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan prevails in exports structure, resulting at X litres, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X litres) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Uzbekistan decreased at an average annual rate of -25.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+25.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +25.1% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+96 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -60% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest wine supplier in Central Asia, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 7.8% share of total exports.
In Uzbekistan, wine exports declined by an average annual rate of -25.0% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per litre in 2021, declining by -9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 112%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre), while Uzbekistan stood at $X per litre.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+0.1%).

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of wine and grape must, when their volume increased by 66% to X litres. Overall, imports posted a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 130% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wine imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 104% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Kazakhstan (X litres) was the largest importer of wine and grape must, achieving 78% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X litres) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (7.4%). Turkmenistan (X litres) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wine imports into Kazakhstan stood at +2.0%. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+23.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012-2021. Kyrgyzstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mongolia (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+2.9 p.p.) and Turkmenistan (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -3.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wine and grape must in Central Asia, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 6.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +3.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (-2.0% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-2.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per litre, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per litre), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
