In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Central Asian preserved asparagus market, when its value decreased by -1% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Preserved Asparagus Production in Central Asia
In value terms, preserved asparagus production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 59%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, overseas purchases of preserved asparagus increased by 40% to X kg, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved asparagus imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Mongolia represented the major importer of preserved asparagus in Central Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X kg, which was approx. 77% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X kg), creating a 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Tajikistan (X kg) and Uzbekistan (X kg) - each accounted for a 7.3% share of total imports.
Mongolia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the preserved asparagus imports, with a CAGR of +51.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+20.1%) and Tajikistan (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-24.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mongolia (+77 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+3.7 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -40.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Mongolia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported preserved asparagus in Central Asia, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mongolia amounted to +49.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-23.3% per year) and Tajikistan (+25.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -16.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, preserved asparagus import price increased by +74.0% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 106%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+15.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
