Over the period under review, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, x-ray examination preparations imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the largest importer of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations in Central Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 56% of total imports in 2021. Mongolia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Uzbekistan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 38% share of total imports. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - together made up 5% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to x-ray examination preparations imports into Kazakhstan stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Mongolia (+12.4%) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tajikistan (-5.1%) and Uzbekistan (-10.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations in Central Asia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled +1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+12.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (-7.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -4.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
