Leather Market Size in Central Asia

For the third year in a row, the Central Asian leather market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by X% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption saw a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, leather production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

Leather exports contracted remarkably to X square meters in 2022, dropping by X% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, leather exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Kazakhstan (X square meters) were the major exporters of leather in 2022, accounting for near X% and X% of total exports, respectively. Kyrgyzstan (X square meters) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Mongolia (X%) and Tajikistan (X%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mongolia (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan represented the major importer of leather in Central Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X square meters, which was near X% of total imports in 2022.
