Hardboard Exports

Exports in Central Asia

For the fourth consecutive year, Central Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of hardboard, which increased by 21% to X cubic meters in 2022. In general, exports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 550%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, hardboard exports rose notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 895% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan was the key exporting country with an export of around X cubic meters, which accounted for 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X cubic meters) and Uzbekistan (X cubic meters), together constituting a 37% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hardboard exports from Kazakhstan stood at +8.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+740.0%) and Kyrgyzstan (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +740.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +18 percentage points.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest hardboard supplier in Central Asia, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+3,038.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+11.5% per year).

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per cubic meter), while Kazakhstan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+18.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of hardboard were imported in Central Asia; growing by 11% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. In 2022, Kazakhstan (X cubic meters) and Uzbekistan (X cubic meters) represented the major importers of hardboard in Central Asia, together reaching approx. 60% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X cubic meters) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Turkmenistan (10%), Mongolia (10%) and Tajikistan (7.3%).

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per cubic meter, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 44%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per cubic meter), while Kazakhstan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
