Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of glass fibre filaments were exported in Central Asia; stabilizing at the year before. Overall, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The smallest decline of -41.9% was in 2017. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, glass fibre filament exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The smallest decline of -47% was in 2017. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of glass fibre filaments decreased by -13.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 124%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glass fibre filament imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 119%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key importer of glass fibre filaments, achieving 71% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), creating a 23% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of glass fibre filaments. At the same time, Mongolia (+51.9%), Tajikistan (+13.5%) and Uzbekistan (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +51.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-13.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+23 p.p.) and Mongolia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -8.3% and -16.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glass fibre filaments in Central Asia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 2.6% share.

In Kazakhstan, glass fibre filament imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+5.7% per year) and Turkmenistan (-11.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkmenistan (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
