In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of frozen carcases of pig meat, when their volume decreased by -10.5% to X tons. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 109%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the largest exporter of frozen carcases of pig meat in Central Asia, creating 100% of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen carcases of pig meat exports, with a CAGR of -3.9% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at 71% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together achieving a 28% share of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen pork carcase imports into Kazakhstan stood at -11.4%. Turkmenistan (-9.4%), Uzbekistan (-18.6%), Kyrgyzstan (-30.3%) and Mongolia (-37.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan increased by +40 and +8.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
