Domestic Appliances Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian domestic appliances market amounted to $X in 2021, increasing by 15% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +66.9% against 2013 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, domestic appliances production expanded to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 71%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, overseas shipments of domestic appliances increased by 18% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 3,432%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 203% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 73% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units). All these countries together took near 27% share of total exports.

Exports from Kyrgyzstan increased at an average annual rate of +70.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+149.6%) and Kazakhstan (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +149.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased by +56 and +21 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest domestic appliances supplier in Central Asia, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Uzbekistan amounted to +146.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+14.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+19.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 38% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 137%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, imports of domestic appliances in Central Asia soared to X units, growing by 28% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 63% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (7.1%), Kyrgyzstan (6.2%) and Turkmenistan (5.5%). Tajikistan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+81.3%), Mongolia (+7.0%), Tajikistan (+4.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +81.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan saw its share reduced by -3% and -9.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported domestic appliances in Central Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 7.6% share.

In Kazakhstan, domestic appliances imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+83.7% per year) and Mongolia (+8.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Tajikistan ($X per unit) and Mongolia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) and Uzbekistan ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
