In 2021, shipments abroad of cases, boxes, crates, drums and similar packings of wood decreased by -26% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 144% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood box exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 103% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 56% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X units) and Tajikistan (X units), together making up a 43% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +23.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest wood box supplying countries in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Tajikistan ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +41.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+23.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Central Asia
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of cases, boxes, crates, drums and similar packings of wood increased by 141% to X units in 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 240% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood box imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 251%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The purchases of the one major importers of cases, boxes, crates, drums and similar packings of wood, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cases, boxes, crates, drums and similar packings of wood imports, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan increased by +5.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cases, boxes, crates, drums and similar packings of wood in Central Asia.
