Exports in Central Asia

In 2019, overseas shipments of candles and tapers increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, candles and tapers exports surged to $X in 2019. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The level of export peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2019, Kazakhstan (X tonnes) was the largest exporter of candles and tapers, creating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X kg), making up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kyrgyzstan (X kg) and Mongolia (X kg) - each finished at a X% share of total exports.

Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2019. At the same time, Mongolia (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2019. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-X%) and Tajikistan (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+X p.p.) and Mongolia (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan saw its share reduced by -X% and -X% from 2007 to 2019, respectively.

In Kazakhstan, candles and tapers exports increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2019. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (-X% per year) and Mongolia (+X% per year).

The candles and tapers export price in Central Asia stood at $X per tonne in 2019, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per tonne), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan, while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2019, the amount of candles and tapers imported in Central Asia contracted dramatically to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tonnes in 2018, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, candles and tapers imports declined notably to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Kazakhstan (X tonnes) and Mongolia (X tonnes) represented roughly X% of total imports of candles and tapers in 2019.
