In 2021, shipments abroad of aluminium hydroxide decreased by 0% to X kg, falling for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports showed a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 1,938%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aluminium hydroxide exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,428% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 442% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +5.0% per year.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of aluminium hydroxide decreased by -19% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 175%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aluminium hydroxide imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 193% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Tajikistan represented the main importer of aluminium hydroxide in Central Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 72% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (9.4%) and Mongolia (6.9%).
Imports into Tajikistan increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+36.4%) and Mongolia (+27.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +36.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tajikistan (+20 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+9.4 p.p.) and Mongolia (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -31.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Tajikistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium hydroxide in Central Asia, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 20% share.
In Tajikistan, aluminium hydroxide imports increased at an average annual rate of +26.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-2.4% per year) and Mongolia (+47.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+16.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
