Exports in Central Asia

In 2020, shipments abroad of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alcohols exports soared to $X in 2020. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), generating an X% share of total exports. Mongolia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2020. Mongolia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Uzbekistan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Uzbekistan saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2020, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest alcohols supplier in Central Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In Kazakhstan, alcohols exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2020. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (X% per year) and Mongolia (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw strong growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2020, overseas purchases of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, alcohols imports dropped markedly to $X in 2020. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Kazakhstan represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), achieving a X% share of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to alcohols imports into Kazakhstan stood at X%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (X%) and Mongolia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2020. While the share of Uzbekistan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2020, the share of Kazakhstan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest alcohols importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, waning by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
