Exports in Central Asia

In 2020, shipments abroad of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alcohols exports soared to $X in 2020. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), generating an X% share of total exports. Mongolia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2020. Mongolia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Uzbekistan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Uzbekistan saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2020, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw strong growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2020, overseas purchases of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, alcohols imports dropped markedly to $X in 2020. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
