Green Peas Market Size in Canada

In 2020, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Canadian green peas market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Green peas consumption peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2009 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, green peas exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

China (X tonnes) was the main destination for green peas exports from Canada, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, green peas exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes), threefold. Indonesia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+X% per year) and Indonesia (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for green peas exported from Canada were China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, the U.S., Egypt, Ecuador, Belgium, Brazil, Malaysia and Colombia, which together accounted for a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average green peas export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, after four years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of peas (green), when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated measured growth from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
