Exports from Bulgaria

In 2022, shipments abroad of soft drinks decreased by X% to X litres, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X litres in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Greece (X litres), Romania (X litres) and Cyprus (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Bulgaria, with a combined X% share of total exports. Italy, Poland, Serbia, Germany, France, Belgium and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Greece ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for soft drinks exports from Bulgaria, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cyprus, with an X% share.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of soft drinks decreased by X% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Romania (X litres) constituted the largest soft drink supplier to Bulgaria, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Romania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Serbia (X litres), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hungary (X litres), with an X% share.
