Corrugated Paper Market Size in Bulgaria

In 2020, the Bulgarian corrugated paper market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, consumption saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, corrugated paper exports contracted to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. From 2012 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Macedonia (X tonnes) was the main destination for corrugated paper exports from Bulgaria, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, corrugated paper exports to Macedonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Greece (X tonnes), fivefold. Albania (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Macedonia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Greece (+X% per year) and Albania (+X% per year).

In value terms, Macedonia ($X) remains the key foreign market for corrugated paper exports from Bulgaria, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Greece ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Albania, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Macedonia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Greece (+X% per year) and Albania (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average corrugated paper export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, corrugated paper imports fell dramatically to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, posted a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Greece (X tonnes), Romania (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of corrugated paper imports to Bulgaria, with a combined X% share of total imports.
