Vegetable Market Size in Brazil

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, vegetable exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Argentina (X tonnes), Paraguay (X tonnes) and Uruguay (X tonnes) were the main destinations of vegetable exports from Brazil, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, the UK, Spain and Canada, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Canada (with a CAGR of +X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the key foreign market for vegetable exports from Brazil, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Paraguay ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Argentina amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (+X% per year) and the Netherlands (+X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average vegetable export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, vegetable export price increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by X%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Imports
Imports into Brazil
In 2021, supplies from abroad of vegetables decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Argentina (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable to Brazil, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the Netherlands (X tonnes), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Argentina stood at -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-X% per year) and the Netherlands (-X% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X), China ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the largest vegetable suppliers to Brazil, together accounting for X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Chile and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further X the main suppliers, Chile, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average vegetable import price amounted to $X per tonne, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, vegetable import price increased by +X% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
