The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
Argentina (X tons), Paraguay (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorides exports from Brazil, together accounting for 88% of total exports. Uruguay, Bolivia and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Uruguay (with a CAGR of +21.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Argentina ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) exports from Brazil, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Paraguay ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Argentina totaled +13.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (-3.6% per year) and Chile (-9.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chlorides export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Venezuela (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, purchases abroad of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) increased by 3.6% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +30.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chlorides imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 42%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest chlorides supplier to Brazil, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tons), eightfold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+141.6% per year) and the United States (-4.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) to Brazil, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-2.8% per year) and Mexico (+69.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chlorides import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, chlorides import price decreased by -0.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 53%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
