The Belgian clove market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2020, after three years of decline. In general, consumption posted prominent growth. France (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of clove exports from Belgium, together comprising X% of total exports. Poland, Morocco, South Korea and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Morocco (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for clove exported from Belgium were France ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Morocco, South Korea, the UK and Poland, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Morocco (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average clove export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of cloves was finally on the rise to reach X tonnes after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, clove imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Germany (X tonnes) constituted the largest clove supplier to Belgium, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, clove imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Spain (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-X% per year) and Spain (+X% per year).
