The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 41%. Silk fabric production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of woven fabrics of silk or of silk waste decreased by -2.2% to X square meters, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 2,908%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silk fabric exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 1,820% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Russia (X square meters) was the main destination for silk fabric exports from Belarus, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to +99.8%.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 168%. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, silk fabric imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 83%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Italy (X square meters) constituted the largest silk fabric supplier to Belarus, accounting for a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, silk fabric imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X square meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X square meters), with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy stood at +32.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+8.8% per year) and China (+2.5% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X), China ($X) and Russia ($X) were the largest silk fabric suppliers to Belarus, together comprising 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by San Marino, which accounted for a further 9.9%.

San Marino, with a CAGR of +1,160.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average silk fabric import price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by San Marino (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
