Garlic Market Size in Belarus

The revenue of the garlic market in Belarus amounted to $X in 2018, declining by -X% against the previous year. In general, garlic consumption continues to indicate a mild deduction. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2018, the harvested area of garlic in Belarus stood at X ha, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the garlic harvested area continues to indicate a moderate setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when harvested area increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to garlic production reached its peak figure at X ha in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Russia (X tonnes) was the main destination for garlic exports from Belarus, with a approx. X% share of total exports.

In 2018, the average garlic export price amounted to $X per tonne, flattening at the previous year. In general, the garlic export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked in 2018 and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

Imports into Belarus

In 2018, the amount of garlic imported into Belarus totaled X tonnes, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, garlic imports decreased by -X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, garlic imports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of garlic imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, garlic imports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, garlic imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, garlic imports reached their maximum at $X in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

China (X tonnes), Russia (X tonnes) and Uzbekistan (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of garlic imports to Belarus, with a combined X% share of total imports. Lithuania, Ukraine and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Egypt, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Russia ($X) and Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest garlic suppliers to Belarus, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Russia experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to imports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average garlic import price amounted to $X per tonne, lowering by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price indicated strong growth from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average import prices for garlic reached their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per tonne), while the price for Lithuania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
