Exports from Bangladesh

In 2018, overseas shipments of glass fibre mats decreased by 0% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 612% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2018, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre mat exports totaled $X in 2018. Overall, exports showed a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 599% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2018, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibre mat exports from Bangladesh, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest glass fibre mat supplier to Bangladesh, accounting for a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre mat imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Singapore (X tons), with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +10.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.3% per year) and Singapore (+76.2% per year).

The average glass fibre mat import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 35% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
