New Zealand (X square meters) was the main destination for knotted carpet exports from Australia, with a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, knotted carpet exports to New Zealand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X square meters), fivefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to New Zealand amounted to +7.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+47.1% per year) and Fiji (+127.1% per year).

In value terms, New Zealand ($X) remains the key foreign market for knotted carpets and other knotted textile floor coverings exports from Australia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to New Zealand totaled +9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+21.5% per year) and Fiji (+104.4% per year).

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, knotted carpet imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X square meters) constituted the largest knotted carpet supplier to Australia, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, knotted carpet imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X square meters), twofold. Turkey (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nepal ($X per square meter), while the price for South Korea ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
