Uncoated Filter Paper Exports

Exports in Asia

In 2022, approx. X tons of uncoated filter paper and paperboard were exported in Asia; increasing by 13% on the previous year. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +113.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, uncoated filter paper exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 74% of total exports. South Korea (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (5.8%). Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to uncoated filter paper exports from China stood at +9.7%. At the same time, Turkey (+27.9%) and South Korea (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+23 p.p.) and Turkey (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Korea and Japan saw its share reduced by -3.4% and -6.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest uncoated filter paper supplier in Asia, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 9.7% share.

In China, uncoated filter paper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+6.2% per year) and Turkey (+26.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 18%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia

In 2022, the amount of uncoated filter paper and paperboard imported in Asia declined dramatically to X tons, falling by -16.8% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated filter paper imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main importers of uncoated filter paper and paperboard in Asia, together comprising 38% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), India (X tons), Iran (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together creating a 32% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons), Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 45% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +34.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
