Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Tin Bar Exports

Exports in Asia

In 2022, overseas shipments of tin bars, rods, profiles and wires were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tin bar exports reached $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 38%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 50% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Japan (X tons) and China (X tons), together mixing up a 42% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +2.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tin bar supplying countries in Asia were Thailand ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together accounting for 47% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +9.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 1.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tin bar export price increased by +62.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tin bar imports expanded to X tons in 2022, surging by 4.4% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 70%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tin bar imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the key importer of tin bars, rods, profiles and wires in Asia, comprising 67% of total import. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), achieving a 5.2% share of total imports. Thailand (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Singapore (X tons), India (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +34.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 41%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+13.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
