For the fifth consecutive year, the Asian poultry market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Poultry Production in Asia

In value terms, poultry production rose modestly to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. in general, production enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of production peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

China (X tonnes) remains the largest poultry producing country in Asia, accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, poultry production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (X tonnes), fivefold. Indonesia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

In China, poultry production expanded at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2020. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+X% per year) and Indonesia (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average yield of poultry in Asia reduced to X kg per X heads, stabilizing at the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the poultry yield hit record highs at X kg per X heads in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2020.

The global number of animals slaughtered for poultry production expanded to X heads in 2020, increasing by X% on the previous year. The total number of producing animals indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2020: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, number of animals slaughtered for poultry production increased by +X% against 2007 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of producing animals peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Production by Country in Asia

China (X tonnes) constituted the country with the largest volume of poultry production, accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, poultry production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (X tonnes), fivefold. Indonesia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

In China, poultry production increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2020. in the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+X% per year) and Indonesia (+X% per year).

In 2020, shipments abroad of poultry decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The volume of export peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, poultry exports reduced sharply to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tonnes) and China (X tonnes) were the key exporters of poultry in 2020, resulting at near X% and X% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes) and the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes), together constituting a X% share of total exports. South Korea (X tonnes), Turkey (X tonnes), Saudi Arabia (X tonnes), Singapore (X tonnes) and Viet Nam (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by South Korea, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, Singapore and Viet Nam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X terms of the main exporting countries, South Korea recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The poultry export price in Asia stood at $X per tonne in 2020, increasing by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, poultry export price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. As a result, export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. in 2020, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per tonne), while Viet Nam ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, poultry imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2020. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

The level of import peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the Philippines ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
