Wrapping Papers Exports
Exports in Asia-Pacific
For the third consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in shipments abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2013 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, wrapping papers exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons), Japan (X tons), India (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Australia (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the key exporter of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Asia-Pacific, comprising X% of total export.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports. India, Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, wrapping papers imports amounted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
China represented the major importer of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. India (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports.
Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (X%), India (X%), Singapore (X%) and South Korea (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Thailand and Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (X%) and Indonesia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (X p.p.), India (X p.p.), Singapore (X p.p.) and Vietnam (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia and Indonesia saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Asia-Pacific, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to X%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (X% per year) and South Korea (X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
