Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, paper knife exports surged to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China dominates exports structure, recording X units, which was near 96% of total exports in 2022. India (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, India (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +4.9% from 2012-2022. China (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest paper knife supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 1.1% share of total exports.
In China, paper knife exports increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 201% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while India totaled $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.7%).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of paper knives increased by 21% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, paper knife imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X units) was the main importer of paper knives, creating 31% of total imports. India (X units) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by South Korea (13%), Vietnam (8.6%), Thailand (7.8%) and Myanmar (6.6%). Malaysia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper knife imports into Indonesia stood at +6.2%. At the same time, Myanmar (+42.5%), India (+14.4%), South Korea (+7.6%), Vietnam (+5.6%) and Malaysia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012-2022. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Indonesia (+11 p.p.), India (+9.3 p.p.), Myanmar (+6.3 p.p.), South Korea (+5.9 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), South Korea ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 58% of total imports.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per unit, falling by -9.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while Myanmar (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
