Bangladesh was the major importer of granules, chippings and powder of marble in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 40% of total imports in 2021. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by China (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Japan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 49% share of total imports. The following importers - Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - together made up 4.4% of total imports.
Imports into Bangladesh increased at an average annual rate of +47.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+86.1%), South Korea (+64.1%), China (+35.7%), Japan (+9.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +86.1% from 2012-2021. Lao People's Democratic Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Bangladesh (+30 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (+15 p.p.), South Korea (+11 p.p.), China (+6.8 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan saw its share reduced by -8.7% and -15.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granules, chippings and powder of marble in Asia-Pacific, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Bangladesh totaled +56.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+54.4% per year) and China (+30.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 34%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
