In 2023, purchases abroad of flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, flat-rolled steel products imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2023. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2022, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly X% of total imports in 2023. Australia (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Singapore (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2023, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, flat-rolled steel products import price increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 an increase of X% against the previous year.
