In general, the harvested area, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to durum wheat production attained the maximum at X ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. While the share of Pakistan (+X p.p.), China (+X p.p.), Taiwan (Chinese) (+X p.p.), Malaysia (+X p.p.) and Thailand (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Japan (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported durum wheat in Asia-Pacific, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Pakistan ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a X% share.
In China, durum wheat imports increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Pakistan (+X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The durum wheat import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per tonne in 2021, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent.
