Date Market Size in Asia-Pacific

In 2019, the Asia-Pacific date market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2019, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Date Production in Asia-Pacific

In value terms, date production fell to $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. In general, production saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2019, production remained at a lower figure.

Pakistan (X tonnes) constituted the country with the largest volume of date production, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, date production in Pakistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, China (X tonnes), threefold.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume in Pakistan amounted to -X%.

In 2019, the average yield of dates in Asia-Pacific shrank to X tonnes per ha, dropping by -X% compared with 2018. Over the period under review, the yield continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tonnes per ha in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, the yield remained at a lower figure. Exports in Asia-Pacific

In 2019, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of dates, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, date exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2019. In general, exports, however, posted temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Pakistan dominates date exports structure, reaching X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2019. It was distantly followed by China (X tonnes), making up a X% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tonnes) and Singapore (X tonnes) occupied a little share of total exports.

Pakistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dates exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2019. At the same time, Singapore (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, China (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2019, the share of Pakistan increased by +X% percentage points, while China (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. The volume of import peaked at X tonnes in 2018, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, date imports dropped markedly to $X in 2019. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

India was the key importer of dates in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports finishing at X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2019. Indonesia (X tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Bangladesh (X tonnes) and Malaysia (X tonnes). All these countries together occupied near X% share of total imports.
