In 2021, shipments abroad of brewing or distilling dregs and waste increased by 166% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after seven years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, brewing dregs exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a resilient increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Australia was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by China (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together achieving a 25% share of total exports.
Australia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brewing or distilling dregs and waste exports, with a CAGR of +23.7% from 2012 to 2021. China (-3.4%) and Vietnam (-11.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Australia increased by +63 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Australia ($X) emerged as the largest brewing dregs supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Australia totaled +24.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-0.6% per year) and Vietnam (-3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, overseas purchases of brewing or distilling dregs and waste increased by 0.5% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +15.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, brewing dregs imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Vietnam (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly 61% of total imports in 2021. Japan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.7% share, followed by Thailand (6.7%), New Zealand (6.5%) and China (5.5%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest brewing dregs importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Vietnam ($X), South Korea ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Thailand, New Zealand and China, which together accounted for a further 29%.
New Zealand, with a CAGR of +21.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Japan ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) and New Zealand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
