Exports in Asia-Pacific
For the third consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in shipments abroad of bread and bakery, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2023 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, bread and bakery exports rose to $X in 2023. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by X% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2023 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the five major exporters of bread and bakery, namely India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Thailand, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), constituting a X% share of total exports. South Korea (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Japan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest bread and bakery supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were Indonesia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and China ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Thailand, India, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), the Philippines, Australia, Bangladesh and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2023, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2022, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2023, supplies from abroad of bread and bakery decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021; afterwards, it flattened through to 2023.
