Paper Articles Exports

Exports in Asia-Pacific

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of boxes, pouches, wallets and writing compendiums of paper decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Overall, exports showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paper articles exports contracted slightly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2022, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. The following exporters - Thailand (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) - each resulted at a X% share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, South Korea (X%) and Thailand (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of China and Thailand increased by X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

For the third year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded decline in overseas purchases of boxes, pouches, wallets and writing compendiums of paper, which decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Overall, imports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, paper articles imports soared to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Hong Kong SAR prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. Thailand (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (X%), Malaysia (X%) and Macao SAR (X%). The following importers - Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Australia (X tons), India (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper articles imports into Hong Kong SAR stood at X%. At the same time, Macao SAR (X%), Cambodia (X%), Bangladesh (X%) and India (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Macao SAR emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, South Korea (X%), Thailand (X%), Malaysia (X%), Japan (X%), Australia (X%), Singapore (X%) and the Philippines (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
