Apple Production in Asia-Pacific

For the third year in a row, Asia-Pacific recorded decline in shipments abroad of apples, which decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, exports recorded a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, apple exports dropped modestly to $X in 2023. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China was the key exporter of apples in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by New Zealand (X tons), committing a X% share of total exports. Japan (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and India (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Japan (X%), Afghanistan (X%) and India (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. New Zealand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Japan (X p.p.), New Zealand (X p.p.) and Afghanistan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR and China saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest apple supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were China ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, Afghanistan and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
