The Asia-Pacific aluminium tube market fell to $X in 2021, dropping by -12.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a deep downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium tube production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 27%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, overseas shipments of aluminium tubes and pipes increased by 21% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 80%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aluminium tube exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 48%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), together comprising a 13% share of total exports. Japan (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+42.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +42.2% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-1.9%), South Korea (-8.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-15.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+34 p.p.) and Vietnam (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-7.8 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-14.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest aluminium tube supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 11% share.
In China, aluminium tube exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (-3.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-9.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific
In 2021, overseas purchases of aluminium tubes and pipes increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aluminium tube imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of aluminium tube imports in 2021 were Thailand (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), India (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and South Korea (X tons), together recording 86% of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +28.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Cambodia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 39% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +29.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
