Exports in Asia-Pacific

In 2022, overseas shipments of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after five years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ABS copolymers exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) represented roughly X% of total exports in 2022. Malaysia (X tons) took an X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hong Kong SAR (X%). The following exporters - Thailand (X tons), Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) - each recorded a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest ABS copolymers supplying countries in Asia-Pacific were South Korea ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, China, Thailand and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

China, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ABS copolymers imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

China dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Malaysia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and India (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ABS copolymers imports into China stood at X%. At the same time, Malaysia (X%), India (X%) and Vietnam (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (X%) and Hong Kong SAR (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (X p.p.), Vietnam (X p.p.) and India (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
