As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

In 2021, exports of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations in Asia skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 31% against the year before. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, x-ray examination preparations exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +58.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 89% of total exports in 2021. Thailand (X tons), India (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to x-ray examination preparations exports from China stood at +6.5%. At the same time, Thailand (+96.1%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+45.8%) and India (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +96.1% from 2012-2021. China (+3.8 p.p.), Thailand (+3.1 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest x-ray examination preparations supplier in Asia, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 1.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +11.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+87.5% per year) and India (+11.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, the amount of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations imported in Asia totaled X tons, picking up by 7.7% against 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, x-ray examination preparations imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of x-ray examination preparations imports in 2021 were China (X tons), Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons), together accounting for 54% of total import. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), generating an 8.8% share of total imports. The following importers - Turkey (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +17.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 65% share of total imports. India, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +16.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
