The Asian canned mushroom market surged to $X in 2022, jumping by 50% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +66.4% against 2016 indices. Canned Mushroom Exports

Exports in Asia

In 2022, overseas shipments of canned mushrooms were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned mushroom exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from China (X tons), together accounting for 98% of total export.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of canned mushrooms. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +4.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest canned mushroom supplier in Asia.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +11.4%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. Vietnam dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 73% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), constituting a 5.8% share of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the canned mushrooms imports, with a CAGR of +80.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+43.9%), Hong Kong SAR (+19.6%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+12.3%), Malaysia (+8.4%), the Philippines (+6.4%) and South Korea (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Japan (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+72 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Malaysia (-4.8 p.p.), the Philippines (-5.8 p.p.), South Korea (-8.3 p.p.) and Japan (-16.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest canned mushroom importing markets in Asia were Hong Kong SAR ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Japan ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +51.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -58% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 9.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+12.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
