In 2018, approx. X tons of husked (brown) rice were exported in Asia; shrinking by -X% against the previous year. In general, brown rice exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, brown rice exports attained their peak of X tons, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, brown rice exports stood at $X in 2018. Over the period under review, brown rice exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports by Country

Myanmar was the main exporter of husked (brown) rice in Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2018. China (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Myanmar increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, Pakistan (+X%) and China (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter in Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. By contrast, Thailand (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2018, the share of Myanmar and Pakistan increased by +X% and +X% percentage points, while Thailand (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Myanmar ($X) remains the largest brown rice supplier in Asia, comprising X% of total brown rice exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Myanmar stood at +X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+X% per year) and Thailand (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The brown rice export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2018, surging by X% against the previous year. The export price indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, brown rice export price decreased by -X% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices for husked (brown) rice attained their maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2018, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Pakistan ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China, while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

The imports totaled X tons in 2018, rising by X% against the previous year. The total imports indicated a measured increase from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, brown rice imports increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, brown rice imports attained their peak figure in 2018 and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Bangladesh (X%). Palestine (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons) and Taiwan, Chinese (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into South Korea increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, China (+X%), Bangladesh (+X%), Turkey (+X%) and Afghanistan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer in Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. By contrast, Palestine (-X%) and Taiwan, Chinese (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
