Exports by Country
India represented the main exporter of ferro-manganese in Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by South Korea (X tons). All these countries together took near 30% share of total exports. The following exporters - China (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - each resulted at a 3.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ferro-manganese exports from India stood at +18.7%. At the same time, Malaysia (+96.3%) and Japan (+22.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +96.3% from 2012-2021. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Korea (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India and Malaysia increased by +34 and +17 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) emerged as the largest ferro-manganese supplier in Asia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at +21.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+101.4% per year) and South Korea (-7.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 31% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Japan ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of decline, overseas purchases of ferro-manganese increased by 27% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The purchases of the five major importers of ferro-manganese, namely Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), the United Arab Emirates, Japan and India, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), making up a 5.5% share of total imports. South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +15.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ferro-manganese importing markets in Asia were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +15.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 58%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
