Truck Crane Market Size in Asia

After four years of growth, the Asian truck crane market decreased by -7.9% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +94.3% against 2016 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Truck Crane Production in Asia

In value terms, truck crane production reduced slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, posted notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Exports in Asia

In 2021, exports of truck cranes in Asia surged to X units, jumping by 74% against the year before. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 356% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, truck crane exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China represented the largest exporter of truck cranes in Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 52% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Japan (X units), Oman (X units) and South Korea (X units), together comprising a 34% share of total exports. Jordan (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to truck crane exports from China stood at -3.7%. At the same time, Oman (+82.8%), Jordan (+58.6%), Uzbekistan (+48.1%), the United Arab Emirates (+4.6%) and South Korea (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +82.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+6.2 p.p.), Jordan (+2.6 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of China (-10.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest truck crane supplier in Asia, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 4.7% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 2.1% share.

In China, truck crane exports decreased by an average annual rate of -4.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-19.4% per year) and South Korea (-9.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 304%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while Jordan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Truck Crane Imports

Imports in Asia

In 2021, overseas purchases of truck cranes were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 16%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, truck crane imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X units), distantly followed by South Korea (X units), Japan (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) were the main importers of truck cranes, together achieving 62% of total imports. The following importers - Israel (X units), Afghanistan (X units), Iraq (X units), Kuwait (X units), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X units), Kazakhstan (X units) and Jordan (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.

Imports into Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -7.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Jordan (+81.3%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+49.2%), Afghanistan (+37.4%), Uzbekistan (+28.2%), Israel (+25.8%), Kuwait (+6.6%), Indonesia (+4.2%) and Iraq (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +81.3% from 2012-2021. South Korea and Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-9.4%) and Kazakhstan (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+5.4 p.p.), Israel (+3.5 p.p.), Afghanistan (+3.3 p.p.), Indonesia (+3.2 p.p.), South Korea (+3 p.p.), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+2.7 p.p.), Jordan (+2 p.p.), Kuwait (+1.9 p.p.) and Japan (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-2.3 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (-5.6 p.p.) and Thailand (-11.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest truck crane importing markets in Asia were South Korea ($X), Japan ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 36% share of total imports. Afghanistan, Kuwait, Indonesia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Israel, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Jordan and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Afghanistan, with a CAGR of +52.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 33%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per unit), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Afghanistan (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
