For the sixth consecutive year, Asia recorded growth in shipments abroad of combined refrigerators-freezers, which increased by 4.4% to X units in 2021. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +73.5% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, combined refrigerator-freezer exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +98.0% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China represented the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X units), Turkey (X units) and South Korea (X units), together creating a 31% share of total exports. Indonesia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the combined refrigerators-freezers exports, with a CAGR of +13.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+8.2%) and Turkey (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Korea (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Thailand increased by +29 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. South Korea (-29.6 p.p.) saw their shares reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest combined refrigerator-freezer supplier in Asia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +13.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+4.1% per year) and Thailand (+5.6% per year).

The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.6% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Japan (X units), distantly followed by South Korea (X units), Vietnam (X units), the Philippines (X units), Iraq (X units), Saudi Arabia (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Malaysia (X units) represented the largest importers of combined refrigerators-freezers, together creating 67% of total imports. The following importers - India (X units), Israel (X units), Thailand (X units), Kazakhstan (X units) and Indonesia (X units) - together made up 15% of total imports.
