The Asian dolomite market reached $X in 2021, with an increase of 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Dolomite Production in Asia

In value terms, dolomite production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 13%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Dolomite Exports

Exports in Asia

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of chalk and dolomite, when their volume decreased by -20.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, dolomite exports rose notably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +112.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 37%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from the United Arab Emirates (X tons), China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons), together resulting at 91% of total export. South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +12.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 71% share of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 12%.

Among the main exporting countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +12.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 39% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia

Dolomite imports surged to X tons in 2021, increasing by 24% on 2020. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -4.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 57%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a mild expansion. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

India represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 50% of total imports. Japan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and China (X tons). All these countries together took near 44% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +82.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest dolomite importing markets in Asia were China ($X), India ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 83% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 9.5%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +55.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
