Rice Market Size in Argentina
For the second year in a row, Argentina recorded growth in market value of rice, which increased by X% to $X in 2018. Overall, the total market indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, rice consumption increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the rice market attained its maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rice production amounted to $X in 2018 estimated in export prices. Over the period under review, the total output indicated a resilient increase from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. For the second consecutive year, from Argentina recorded decline in exports of rice, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2018. In general, rice exports showed a temperate deduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, rice exports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2012 to 2018, the growth of rice exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rice exports shrank to $X in 2018. Over the period under review, rice exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.
Exports by Country
Brazil (X tonnes), Chile (X tonnes) and Iraq (X tonnes) were the main destinations of rice exports from Argentina, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Cuba, Senegal, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Turkey, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Gambia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for rice exported from Argentina were Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Iraq ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. Venezuela, Cuba, Senegal, Turkey, Costa Rica, Bolivia, the Netherlands and Gambia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2018, the average rice export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2018, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, the average export prices for rice attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for rice remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Senegal ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rice Imports
Imports into Argentina
In 2018, after five years of growth, there was a significant decline in imports of rice, when its volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. In general, rice imports showed a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, rice imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, rice imports contracted markedly to $X in 2018. Over the period under review, rice imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Paraguay (X tonnes), Uruguay (X tonnes) and India (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of rice imports to Argentina, with a combined X% share of total imports.
From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Paraguay, while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Paraguay ($X), Uruguay ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest rice suppliers to Argentina, together accounting for X% of total imports.

Over the period under review, the average import prices for rice attained their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the countries with the highest prices were Paraguay ($X per tonne) and Italy ($X per tonne), while the price for India ($X per tonne) and Brazil ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
